Promoting a Wrestling Show

wrestlingAn effective low-budget way of promoting your show is through flyers. Anywhere you see a window you should stop inside the business to see if you can put one up, or at the very least leave some on their counter. There has been times where I've papered every car in a grocery store parking lot as well. You see people walking around? Give them a flyer, word of mouth is the best form of advertising.

You should get five or so posters made up, of an eye catching size. Put these up in the main foot traffic areas of the town. On the flyers and posters the main, and biggest word on them should be wrestling.

When it comes to promoting be creative, think of anyway you can get the word out. Remember your show can be the best one ever produced, but if no one comes to see it then it was all for not.

You may want to think of running a few commercial spots. Contact your local cable advertising provider to check on their rates for 30 second spots. Then run these spots during WWE Raw weeks prior to your show.

I wish I had MySpace when I promoted. I think if I ran a show today I could promote it solely through MySpace and get a good crowd. Make a MySpace for your promotion, then search for all of the wrestling fans in your area.

Getting local celebrities involved in the event is a great idea. Try getting a local radio DJ to get involved somehow for the show, as a ring announcer, or doing a little spot on the show. This essentially will give you free advertising on local radio as they hype up their DJ's appearance.

Free advertising is the best. Your local newspaper should have an upcoming events section, usually on Fridays. You can submit your listing to them for free. Look for other smaller papers around your area and list your event in those as well.

A tool I used at the event was to give away a t-shirt or video. At the door, tell the customers you are having a drawing, fill out their name and address to enter. After the show use all these names and addresses to make a mailing list. Most people will not pay attention to when your next show is when you tell them at the show. This way, you can send them a flyer when the next show rolls around. Great way to maintain your fan base.
