Kids today are growing up in the age of technology. The majorities of their games are now on the computer, and are so realistic compared to the games that parents used to play. Games are also not as innocent as they used to be. Nowadays, there is a lot of violence in video games for children of all ages. What many parents may not realize is that the games their children are playing, can actually be teaching them aggressive behavior. According to a CNN report, kids spend an excessive amount of time playing these video games, and this is what causes there behavior to be affected. Below are several signs that you can look out for to see if your child's bad behavior is caused by the games, they play.
Acting out the games
Young children truly enjoy acting out the games that they are playing. After they have finished playing the games, you will more than likely see them reenacting it. If your child was playing a violent game, you can be sure that they are probably going to be acting out the same violence, or aggressive behavior. This is why it is so important for parents, to check the rating on the games that they buy for their children.
No game time for a few weeks
If you are not sure whether, or not it is the game that is causing your child's aggressive behavior, then try a little experiment. Why not take the game away from them for a few weeks, and see how they respond. This does not mean that you have to prevent them from playing the video game at all. This just means that you can switch up the types of games that they are playing. For example, why not just have them play family type games, such as dance games. They may not be too happy with the sudden change but it will give you the opportunity to see if there are any improvements in the behavior over time. A few weeks may be enough time for younger children, but older children may need a bit longer.
Why do they like the game?
Take the time, and ask your kids, what they like about the game. You may be surprised to learn why they like a particular game. Some children are actually drawn to the violence that is contained in the video game. Over time, this can begin to desensitize them when it comes to violence. You may think that it is just a game, but nowadays they make video games look so real, it can be very difficult for some young children to learn the difference.
